Yahoo! Mail vs Gmail

Like many people, I have both a Gmail account and a Yahoo! Mail account. That's because there are things that I like about each of them enough to not want to get rid of either of them. Despite the fact that they are both email systems, they are strikingly different. If you're going to limit yourself to just one free e-mail account, you'll have to carefully consider your preferences to go with the right one.

Here are some of the differences between Gmail and Yahoo! Mail:

  • Attachments. Gmail lets you add attachments in the same screen as the one you're writing your email in. Yahoo moves you to a different screen and makes you add attachments one at a time. To add more than five attachments requires adding addition boxes in which to input information. Some people may find this annoying.
  • Chat feature. Although Yahoo! has an IM program, it's not the same Gmail's chat function which is built right into your email. Some people like this option because it makes it easy to send quick messages instead of longer emails when you're conversing with someone else who is already online. However, some people don't want to be seen online when they're answering email and so don't like this Gmail function. Of course, you can opt out of it.
  • Contact storage. Gmail and Yahoo! differ slightly in the way that they organize your contacts. Gmail automatically keeps addresses that you've emailed on your contact list unless you delete them. Yahoo is the opposite; you have to manually opt to add them to your address book. The basics are the same but the appearance is a little different so it's a matter of preference. It should be noted that Google is now letting you expand your personal profile so that the contacts you have may provide more information automatically through Google.
  • Conversation organization. Gmail keeps your conversation going for you - every time that you reply to someone's email, it automatically gets added to the same conversation thread so you can easily look things up within the conversation again. However, this can be annoying because to change your "subject" line, you have to re-compose a new email which is not true of Yahoo! Mail.
  • Folder organization. The main thing about Yahoo! Mail that I prefer is the way that it lets you set up folders and organize your information. Google lets you label your folders but they're all kept in basically the same places. (They're in your inbox or they can be archived.) In contrast, you can create many different folders on Yahoo! which makes more organizational sense for my work.
  • Professional credibility. Most people who use their email accounts for professional reasons don't use a free account at all. However, those that do almost always go with Gmail. It is considered to be the more professional of accounts and lends greater credibility to freelancers and home business owners who receive email from clients and investors. Gmail recently added a function that lets you set up an email account with your own domain name so that you can get some serious professionalism from it. Although Yahoo! Mail accounts are common, they aren't considered quite as professional by the average person working online today.
  • Spam folders. In my experience, Yahoo! Mail gets more spam. Additionally, I've had more problems with my Yahoo! inbox mail and spam mail getting tossed into the wrong folder than I've had with Gmail. But that could be just one user's experience and not indicative of the whole situation.

For the most part, I prefer Gmail to Yahoo! Mail. However, there are benefits to both of them. And either can be good as a free account. Just don't go with Hotmail.

Social Traffic and Earth Day Birthday Background

I would like to tell you a story, this story begins with most if not all, of these people not really knowing each other at all, yet all of them had one thing at heart. That one thing was that they were all business people, marketers and internet marketers who knew that they didn't fit in with the old way of doing business. Each of these people yearned for a different dynamic in their respective business areas, a way to do business with people that felt and thought the same way they did. Each of these people knew that business and marketing could respect the individual and show care and compassion in their approach to marketing, forming relationships with their customers and clients rather than selling to them

Rain Forest Destruction

More than half of the world's animals live in the rain forest. Many of the earth's insects are found in the tropical forests, as well. Of these inhabitants, a number are endangered animals. With each passing year, and many hundreds of thousands of acres of the forests are destroyed, more and more habitat is cut away, sending the creatures to the brink of extinction. Some startling statistics are that over an acre of rain forest is destroyed each second. That is truly incomprehensible. Within 40 years, they could be gone. Vanished from this planet. Yet, at one point in our history, rain forests covered about 14% of the earth. We need to stop the rain forest destruction!

Rain forests in Brazil, Indonesia and South East Asia, in particular, are impacted by logging and clearing work. Some work is done to build roads. Other times, the clearing is for farming or cattle ranching. Homes are being built in the cleared areas. Even gold and silver mining is being conducted, as well. Oil exploration and refinment work is also being done in these areas. Rain forest destruction is happening at an alarming rate, for indefensible reasons.

Removal of the trees destroys the upper canopy of the forest, taking away the homes of many birds in the rain forest. With each desecrated acre of forest land, the earth suffers potential overall climate changes, as forests are key to carbon dioxide intake from the air. Global warming impacts could accelerate with the continued rain forest destruction rate.

How To Retrieve Windows XP Administrator Password

You are a network administrator in a small business environment where there's no domain controller or Active Directory in place -- and one of your users (or managing director!) comes running to you one morning asking you to ‘do something immediately' as he has forgotten his Windows XP administrator password and can't log on anymore!

Your job and reputation are at stake - what would you do? One option is to simply refuse the request saying this is a no-way-out situation which can be solved only through re-installing Windows. But you are provided with an option of giving a positive answer through this guide.

Forgetting Windows XP administrator password can be a big nag especially if there's some important data held up in the system which is required on short notice. While there are no definitive guides on how to retrieve or re-set Windows XP administrator password, there are techniques and third party tools available that claim to put you back in control of your system. But before attempting a solution like this, make sure all other arenas are exhausted - perhaps there's another admin user, or try re-starting the system in Safe Mode and login without a password, i.e. the default admin of Windows XP. In the end, if all other measures fail, here's what you can count on: a Linux based free bootable CD that lets you recover from the loss of Windows XP admin password.

Download the bootable disk's image, an ISO file from here. Burn the image on a new CD and set the computer BIOS to boot with CD drive as first boot device. This is more than just a password resetting utility. Since it's a bootable disk, you land outside the installed OS and get complete offline working environment which is not dependent on Windows, and then NTFS and FAT32 file systems can be read as well.

Second, it offers to either change the password to a new one or removing it - for all the users, not just admin ones. Third, it allows unblocking of existing blocked accounts - so if there's a blocked admin already present, one can simply enable it. And lastly, it has got an ‘almost fully functional registry editor' too.

After booting from the CD, the instructions are provided on-screen and are self explanatory. Initially, the hard disk device drivers are to be loaded, once this is done, path of Windows installation folder has to be provided. This is how the programme gets the list of current users. A list of users along with their hex IDs is shown. Select the one that need to be changed, and select password resetting option. Use asterisk to specify a blank password. Press ‘yes' at confirmation prompt. Exit from the operations menu and select the option to write changes to the disk. Once this is done, remove the CD and re-boot the system and don't forget to change the password when back in Windows. Note that num-pad of keyboard might not work in some cases with this Linux CD.

How do you set-up your wireless connection?

Once this happens, you will want to manually set-up the router. Connect your computer to the router directly, torn on your computer and it will connect to the router. It may prompt you to install software, drivers or other data from the installation CD, go ahead and follow those directions, restart and then begin the process again. Open up your Internet browser of choice, and type in http://192.168.0.1. This is the default router configuration protocol address. From there, it will prompt you for a password for your router. Set that up and follow the instructions on the screen to configure your router.

You may want to set-up password protection for your network. Most homeowners now do this so that other people outside your home cannot steal the Internet connection you pay for. Set-up a key password and only share it with those you want on your network. That way is stays secure and within your home. Anybody who is on your network is your responsibility under most ISP contracts. If somebody is hijacking your wireless Internet connection and engaging in illegal activity, you will be held liable for it whether it is someone in your home or someone sitting out front in a car on a laptop.

After you have followed the steps in the configuration panel, exit out and turn off your computer. Unplug the Ethernet cable and restart your computer, your wireless card will pick up the signal from the router and prompt you for your network password. Enter that, and you will be connected to your network wirelessly.
